The Canfield Half Marathon is an Iron-Core race, and is the most difficult. First 4 miles of the Half are on rough condition ranger road. But don’t let that fool you. You’ll be paying a toll for the luxury of a road by climbing about 2000 feet in elevation in those first 4. Only then have you earned some downhill.

Half-Marathon and 9’er Course Briefing at 9:15am
Half-Marathon and 9’er Start time is 9:30am
There will be several aid stations along the Ranger Road portion of the course. No aid stations on the trail portions of the course.
The Half-Marathon course runs as follows: From Start line, up FR# 1562 about 2 miles, left at Over Look onto FR# 2342. Near the top of the mountain, turn off FR #2342 and Right onto Trail ‘D’. Follow ‘D’ around the North side of Canfield Mountain and onto FR #2342. Left on FR# 2342 and straight through aid station at Over Look on FR# 2342, right onto Trail 7 (AT ALL INTERSECTIONS ON TRAIL 7, ALWAYS STAY TO THE RIGHT). Follow 7 to Trail ‘A’. Right onto ‘A’ to the bottom of the canyon.
AT THE BOTTOM: This is where Trail 4 (Cave) and ‘A’ intersect, AND where Half-Marathon runners will split off from the 9’er course!!! 9’er runners will continue up the wash on ‘A’ (A SLIGHT RIGHT TURN). Half-Marathoners will TURN LEFT and run down 4 (Cave).
Half-Marathoners will follow Trail 4 down to the Start area. There will be an aid station at this point. From the Start area, turn left and onto Trail 8 (Penn). Follow 8 to the top, and around a sharp left turn. From there 8 run along the ridgeline until (A volunteer will be stationed at this point) the course drop off the ridge to the left. Continuing on 8 through single track, then double track until at the top (Trail will be well marked) take a sharp left. Follow this section of 8 to the ‘A’ intersection again. Stay on ‘A’ (This time passing the ‘A’, Cave intersection, and continuing on ‘A’ up the wash) following trail markers, to FR# 1562. There will be an aid station just below this point. Left on FR# 1562 down to the Finish.
Awards will be given at the Start area, and all participants will then be shuttled back to the Coeur d’Alene Inn.
The Canfield 9’er is the more moderate level, however, does begin on the same 4 mile beginning stretch as the Half Marathon. For more information on this particular race click below.

The Canfield 5K Trail Run is beginner friendly race. The 5k route is the director’s favorite part of the course, because of the scenery and gradual climb. But it’s still not to be taken lightly. The part of the course is also the last loop of the Half; A nice gift for all your hard work. For more information on this particular race click below.
5K Trail Run Details
Sorry. No Dogs.
!!!5K COURSE CHANGE!!! Due to the unexpected, but incredibly exciting response for the 5K trail course, it has become necessary that we make a last minute change to the route (you will thank me). This will allow all participants of the 5K (that is over 100 runners) to start at the same time, thus making for a more enjoyable start. It also means you will spend less time standing around waiting for your heat to start. And it will allow for us to give more accurate timing. Don’t worry! The course is still fantastic.
PACKET PICK-UP: At Fleet Feet Sports on Sherman Ave, in Coeur d’Alene, Friday time to time
The 5K Start time is 9am.

There will be only ONE water station on the 5K course at about mile one. Plan appropriately.
Awards will be given at the start line after the 5K is finished. Participants will then be shuttled back the Coeur d’Alene Inn.
This course takes under two hours for an average hiker to complete.

"Got my CMRS shirt today!!! It rocks!!! Now I can strut my stuff and show the world what I did!"Aaron C.
"Your race was my favorite ever. Before running IRON-CORE I really didn't care for the races I did. I figured if you want to run, then go run. Don't need to pay or collect a shirt. However, your race was a lot of fun. Best terrain and it is the only shirt I wear from any race. It was a great time. Will look forward to Canfield Ultra. Thanks Brah"Paul
"Finally (mostly...) not sore as of today...that was a KILLER half, Toby--way harder than either Robie or Dry Creek halves down the Boise way (I've done both and they don't hold a candle...) Nice work!!"Aaron
